New: respondents can now pick up where they left off
22 Aug 2025
We’ve just made completing surveys even smoother for your respondents.
Now, if someone closes their browser before submitting their response, they’ll automatically resume where they left off if they return using the same browser. No extra links, no hassle.
If they’d prefer to start fresh, they can simply use a new three-dot menu at the top of the page to abandon the response that’s in progress and start again from scratch.
The Finish later feature is still available for respondents who want to return later using a different device or browser.
This update means no more lost progress, no more frustration at having to start all over again, and – hopefully – a better response rate for your survey.
Frequently asked questions
A respondent’s progress will be remembered by their browser for up to 30 days. So, as long as the respondent returns to the survey using the same browser, they will have the opportunity to pick up where they left off.
Responses will be saved each time the respondent progresses to the next page. So, if they progress to Page 5, their responses for Pages 1-4 will be saved and they’ll be returned to start page 5.
How is this feature different from the existing Finish later feature?
The existing Finish later feature allows respondents to generate a bookmark link to resume a response later. This link will work across any device or browser for as long as the survey is open.
Finish later will also remember the responses made on the page that the respondent has chosen to generate their link. So, unlike the new process to resume a response, Finish later doesn’t require the page to be submitted for the responses to be remembered.
What if the respondent wants to start their response again?
There might be cases where the respondent would rather start from the beginning. So, we’ve introduced a new Start again button to surveys.
If the respondent chooses to start again, their progress will be removed and they will be taken back to the start.

What happens if the respondent clears their browser data before returning to the survey?
If a respondent clears their browser data before they return to the survey, then they won’t be able to resume their response. They’ll be taken back to the beginning.
A Finish later link would still resume the response in this instance.
