This accessibility statement applies to content published on app.onlinesurveys.jisc.ac.uk and onlinesurveys.jisc.ac.uk, otherwise known as Online Surveys.  

This website application is run by Jisc. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website application. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website application using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website application using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website application using a screen reader
  • interact with the site as we have selected colours, contrast profiles and fonts with accessibility in mind
  • understand the website application text as we have tried to present it as simply as possible.

How accessible is this website application?

We know some parts of this website application are not fully accessible: 

  • some areas are not fully operable via keyboard

Success Criterion 1.1.1: Non-text Content
  • Some buttons are without text. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1.
  • In some instances, form controls do not have an accessible name. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1.
  • In some instances, there are svg elements without alternatives. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1

Success Criterion 1.3.1: Info and Relationships  

  • Some aria-labelled by attributes refer to a missing element. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1.
  • Some inputs have multiple LABEL elements associated with them. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1.
  • Some form controls are not associated with a text label. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1.
  • Some LABEL elements are not associated to a form control. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1.

Success Criterion 1.4.3: Contrast (Minimum)

  • In some instances, there is not enough contrast between text and its background. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.3.

Success Criterion 4.1.2: Name, Role, Value

  • In some instances, form control does not have an accessible name and its purpose cannot be conveyed by assistive technologies. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 4.1.2.

  • Some links do not operate via keyboard. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.1.1.

Success Criterion 2.4.1: Bypass Blocks
  • In some instances, there are broken links pointing to a section not present in the page. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.1.

Content that’s not within scope of the accessibility regulations

Third party content

Customers of the Online Surveys service produce surveys that can include images, custom text, and downloads. These are not owned by Jisc, and each customer is responsible for ensuring they meet accessibility standards where necessary. 

Disproportionate burden

We are not claiming that it is a disproportionate burden to fix the issues on this website application. 

Each customer is responsible for ensuring the accessibility standards are met for surveys created by them.

How we tested this website

In April-May 2024, automated testing was carried out on this website application using AQA, followed by manual testing on a sample of pages and functionality. Throughout the development of Online Surveys, we’ve also carried out automated testing using SiteImprove and Google Lighthouse, AQA, and manual testing with NVDA and Axe Dev Tools.

What we're doing to improve accessibility

Further accessibility tests will be carried out throughout the upcoming months as we continue with the development of the Online Surveys V3 platform which is replacing the V2 system. These redevelopments aim to correct the compliance issues listed in this statement. 

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared in May 2024. This website application was last tested in May 2024, the test was carried out by Jisc. This website application will be next retested before May 2025 and the accessibility statement will be reviewed and updated accordingly.
