As we pivot from version 2 to version 3 of Jisc Online Surveys, we wanted to be able to more easily communicate our progress and plans with our users. So, every other Monday, we’ll tell you what we’ve been working on and what we are planning. We’ll also use this space to communicate project timelines and our roadmap.

The last two weeks

Over the last two weeks, we’ve been focusing on delivering our new Answer Piping and Image Upload features. Both are being tested now and will be released soon. We gave a sneak peak of Answer Piping in the last update. Keep reading for a preview of Image Upload.

We’ve made two releases since the last update.

Release 2.3.0 introduced a brand new feature for Online Surveys: Choice randomisation. A new toggle, on Choice and Dropdown question editors, allows you to choose to display your answer options in a random order for each respondent. This may help overcome bias that can result from choices always being presented to your respondents in the same order. Some bug fixes and UI improvements also came with this release.

Release 2.3.1 addressed some bugs.

The team also spent some time together in our Bristol office last week to plan our development work for the next two quarters. Your feedback has been instrumental in helping us prioritise our backlog, so thank you for taking part in our User Experience team’s initiatives and contacting our Customer Success team with your thoughts. We still need to dot some i’s and cross some t’s but, once we have, I’ll share our roadmap in this bulletin.

Happening in the next two weeks

Our goal is to release both the Image Upload and Answer Piping features in this next two-week period. There’s still some testing to do, but I hope to be able to tell you those features are ready to use in the next update.

A sneak peak of Image Upload

Our Image Upload feature will allow you to upload or embed an image into a Note element in your survey. This could be used for decorative purposes, providing context to your survey, or even for forming part of a question itself.

The uploader will allow .png, .jpeg and .gif files up to 2mb in size. You’ll be able to size and add alt text to the image to ensure your survey is accessible. The survey will display your images, as you’ve specified, to your respondents.
